Sue D’Arcy
Founder & Chief Executive Officer
Sue is a Research Scientist with an MBA and a history of breakthroughs in LED therapies and regulatory-approved devices. As CEO of iSMART, she drives the corporate direction, ensuring the company stays at the forefront through new product development, compliant clinical research, and regulatory strategies. Sue’s leadership leverages LED technology’s potential for new treatment indications, guiding iSMART’s team with a clear plan for innovation and effectiveness.
Andrew Bailey
Chief Operating Officer
Andrew has over 20 years of experience in senior operations roles within phototherapy device manufacturing, overseeing operations, purchasing, logistics, and manufacturing, while managing key suppliers and distribution.At iSMART, he coordinates manufacturing and shipping to meet customer expectations and liaises with customers regarding their future requirements to maintain suitable stock levels. Andrew holds an honours degree in Chemistry from the University of Birmingham.
James Woodhead
Chief Technical Officer
James has over 25 years of experience in the Opto-Electronic Industry and holds a degree in Physics from the University of Wales. At iSMART, he leads the team responsible for all product design, development, and life cycle management, including overseeing our design and manufacturing partner. He ensures compliance with ISO13485 and MDSAP standards. As part of the senior leadership team, James helps set the strategy for product development and growth.
James Amos
Commercial and Finance Director
James joined iSMART with over 20 years’ experience in manufacturing and property. A Chartered Accountant with a degree, he has led large-scale, complex projects with multi-disciplinary teams. Previously, he was a Development Director for an ASX-listed developer, managing a £2bn+ project. James oversees the Commercial, Legal, and Operational aspects of iSMART and is responsible for delivering the company’s growth strategy as part of the senior management team.
James Knight
Chief Business Development Officer
James Knight is a successful entrepreneur and executive with a track record of founding and scaling successful companies in teeth whitening and at-home beauty devices. With 16 years in China as a consultant, he specialized in research, design, development, and manufacturing for leading global brands. James has held pivotal leadership roles, including Vice President of Business Development, Head of Innovation, and CEO, spearheading groundbreaking advancements in light therapy and at-home beauty devices while driving robust product development and market expansion.

1995- 2003
A series of NASA-funded experiments investigated medical uses of LEDs, including accelerated wound healing.
2000
LED therapy was used by doctors treating non-melanoma skin cancer in hospitals when it was noted that the skin surrounding the treatment area also seemed to vastly improve. The first study on LED therapy and skin rejuvenation recorded significant results, and LED has been used within the medical sector for skin rejuvenation ever since, in an ever-expanding sector.
2002
With no downtime or side effects, LED light therapy became more popular in beauty salons and aesthetics clinics. LED therapy can enhance the results of traditional beauty treatments providing a boost to revenue streams and improved client satisfaction.
2018
iSMART Developments Ltd was founded by Sue D’Arcy and a small in-house team, with the core members jointly responsible for the first clinical studies in LED light therapy, and for the work that resulted in the introduction of Omnilux, now widely accepted as a global leader in the LED Healthcare & Medical device sector
2019
iSMART Developments Ltd launched the first home-use flexible silicone LED device for the face and for the Décolletage. iSMART achieved FDA clearance for the mask and the bib.
2020
Launch of the first LED panel device to specifically treat the visible signs of ageing of the hand – handLITE.
2022
Achieved MDSAP and ISO13485 Regulatory Status.
2023
Achieved MDR for our Facemask specifically designed to treat mild to moderate acne vulgaris.
2024
First to achieve FDA clearance for the treating wrinkles and the visible signs of ageing of the Neck and Decolletage area with our decoLITE LED panel.
2025
Achieved FDA clearance for the treatment of dermatitis of the hand using our LED Glove device, handLITE.
